Fun Day for Printing Demonstration

On yet another sunny day Parkfields Gallery's Summer Exhibition was a great success.

Lee Wright our featured artist printmaker gave a fab demonstration of how you can transform a piece of lino into a beautiful landscape scene. He kept everyones attention for the whole three hours of the exhibition which is no surprise as he is incredibly enthusiastic about the technique.

 Another featured artist for the summer exhibition is Mary Jolley. We are lucky to be able to share with you her joyous use of colour on a select range of her oil paintings.

 Noela Bewry also features in our summer exhibition and her selection of oil paintings makes a fabulous addition to the choice of abstract art the Gallery can offer this summer.

Last but not least for our summer feast for the eyes we are featuring Kate Loveday's still life studies

Artist Printmakers set the scene

Fresh in to the Gallery in the last week we have some gorgeous prints by three artists all new to Parkfields.

 Lee Wright specialises in reduction linoprints of the Brecon countryside.

 Christine Howes specialises in woodcuts and wood engravings of wildlife, both flora and fauna.

Jess Townsend specialises in etchings of both flowers and coastal scenes.

We have a large selection of each of the above artists work, both framed and unframed and along with our existing selected artist printmakers, Parkfields Gallery has a very comprehensive selection of artist printmakers work now on display.
We are very keen to encourage the explanation of each of the many lengthy print making processes and all the staff welcome a chance to explain each artists method. We also have a detailed sheet in the gallery which helps to explain the techniques and are happy to print out a copy for anybody who is interested.

So please pop in and see for yourself the range of work and the outstanding talent of the many artist printmakers that Parkfields Gallery represents.

Fun and fabulous Textiles

The latest textiles to brighten up the Gallery are Deryn Relph's funky woolen knitted cushions and lampshades.Great for adding that zing of colour to any interior.

If you are looking for a cooler colour palette to lighten up your soft furnishings then Zoe Miller's cushions with a subtle stripe effect below may be the ones to choose. She also does a lovely range of summer scarves in similar colours with a vintage feel.

Zoe's scarves are accompanied by a fabulous collection of handwoven scarves by Jan Beadle. As well as the pastel shades shown in the picture we have a large choice of colourways of Jan's Luxurious scarves.

Houses, streets, meetings and yesterday

Parkfields Gallery hosted the annual Craft Gallery Managers Meeting this week. It was lovely to catch up with other Gallery owners from around the South West including the Devonshire and Somerset Guilds of Craftsmen, The Brewery Arts Centre in Cirencester, Craft in the bay in Cardiff, Llantarnum Grange near Cwmbran and the Mission Gallery in Swansea. Art is an important part of our lives and both private and public galleries have an important role to play in spreading the word.

Talking of which it was a general consensus that social media is the way to go so I am happy to introduce you to some new artworks via this blog.

Images of yesterday are linked throughout Tamsin Howells acrylic jewellry. From old sewing pattern wall panels to vintage lace bracelets and old school tie earrings we have a must see range displayed in the window and our matching acrylic cabinets.

 Kim Bramley's new range of work arrived yesterday and it includes two examples of her kiln glass wall panels which feature pretty rows of houses. The framed panel has its own Led lighting system meaning that the light shines through the panel wherever you choose to hang it. The other long panel is awaiting hanging in pride of place in the gallery along with Kim's beautiful bowls, tiles and flowers. I've also got to mention her cuflinks and earrings as they will add a sparkle to any outfit.

 Also following on the theme of houses Sally Shrubsell's new work looks fabulous in the upstairs gallery. Sally uses both canvas and aluminium panels as a background for her abstract pieces (some with a hint of a street scene). This is the first time we have exhibited Sally's painting and they are definitely worth a trip to the gallery for the joyful colour and contemplation they bring to the viewer.

Swifts and things

Just this last week we have been delighted to hear the swifts joyful return to Ross on Wye and now they have been joined by our very own range of birds on display in the Gallery in the form of Nick and Gabi Ward's ceramics and Julia Manning's stunning prints and cards.

On Saturday Nick and Gabi Ward popped into the Gallery with their bird inspired ceramics. This newly launched range includes a collection of mugs, jugs and bowls all delicately coloured with an eggshell blue or off white background with cute pastel bird images scratched (or sgraffitoed ) into the clay. They have also added a new funky olive green colour to their ever popular sgraffito range which contrasts beautifully with the more delicate pastel colours of the bird range. 

To further add to our celebration of all things to do with birds we have a lovely collection of Julia Manning's wood and lino cuts and cards. Ranging from Turdus Merulas ( the latin name for the blackbird) to starlings, swallows and yellow hammers we have a bird to tickle everyones fancy!

So join with us and our gorgeous birds to celebrate the start of summer in Ross on wye.
